Let’s continue with our Privateer Q&As. Cathi Swanson has been around the cx course a time or two and is a veteran cross racer in her second year as a cat 3. We’re glad to have her among the few lady Privateers. So, let’s hear what it’s like to be Cathi.
Tell us about your career.
Director of design at Skuid
When was your first cx race and what was it like?
Knoxiecross in Feb ’08. I don’t remember much except that I was hauling my mtn bike around the first few years I dabbled in it.
It’s race day – what do you do to get ready?
Arrive late, get in a half ass warmup, and change the pressure in my tires 3 times.
Do you eat anything particular before a race?
My plan: have real food, like homemade larabars or scratch-inspired portables. reality: sucking down a quick gel.
Give us your best “fred” moment (or just share your most embarrassing race moment).
Face planting in a sand pit. but isn’t that a rite of passage?
What’s the first thing you do after you cross the finish line?
Get out of my nasty, wet kit. I can get chilled even in hot weather if it’s on too long.
What are 2 things you’d like to improve upon this season?
Remounts, barrier hopping
What’s your favorite color on the PFM unicorn horn?
What’s the one piece of bike gear you can’t live without?
Chamois butt’r 😛
What do you do when you’re not riding your bike or working?
Experimenting with recipes, attempting to garden, hanging with my awesome fam (husband & 2 dogs)
Who’s your favorite Privateer to heckle and why?
Do you even need to ask? (el chihuahua)
What would you sing at karaoke night?
Pour Some Sugar on Me. 80s metal is just fantastic for karaoke!
Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
I swear I’m a shy person.
Anything else you want to tell us about yourself?
We need a longer cx season!!
